"National School Breakfast Week" is March 4-8

National School Breakfast runs from Monday, March 4th through Friday, March 8th! This is a “scrumptious” week when we try new items, invite parents, guest servers, and School District of DeSoto staff and administrators to eat with the students! It’s also a time when SDDC Food Services staff dress up, or wear a NSBW t-shirt, decorate, or even play music - depending on what the theme is for the year - and this year's theme is: "Surf's Up” with National School Breakfast!

National School Breakfast Week was launched in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the School Breakfast Program, a federally assisted meal program operating in public and non-profit private schools and residential child care institutions since 1975. A nutritious meal is served at each school in our District every morning. DeSoto schools offer nutritious school breakfasts, complete with fruit and low-fat, or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning.

Breakfast provides students with a healthy and energizing start to the day. Studies show that students who eat a school breakfast are more likely to reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math, score higher on standardized tests, have better concentration and memory, be more alert, and maintain a healthy weight.
