Home Education
Home Education is an educational choice option that satisfies the requirement for regular school attendance. Curricular decisions are determined by the parent. If you are interested in starting a Home Education Program you will need to register your program with the Department of Student Services. One we receive your application you may begin initiating your program. The notice must be in writing, signed by the parent/guardian, and include the following information: Full legal names, addresses, and birth dates of all children that shall be enrolled as students in the home education program. You may provide this notification by submitting a Letter of Intent to Home Education provided in the Home Education Documents section below to the Department of Student Services.

In response to COVID-19 protocols, Home Education Registrations will only be accepted electronically until further notice. To establish a Home Education Program (to register your child/children) please follow one of the following procedures:

Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK)
Summer Programs
The Department of Student Services is soliciting interest in a summer VPK program. The program would run virtually from Monday, June 4th – Friday, July 31st, 2020, from 7:30 am - 3:00 pm. In order to be eligible for this program, your child must meet the following requirements: 
• Your child did not use a VPK voucher during the school year
• Your child will be attending Kindergarten in August 2020

Fall Programs
The School District of DeSoto County has Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Classes in every elementary school. The registration for these classes is very limited. Students zoned for the school have priority. We are currently accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year.

2020-2021 Fee Schedule
• 7:30 am -11:30 am – Free – AM transportation only will be provided if you meet school residency requirements.
• 7:30 am - 2:30 pm – $75.00 per week – AM & PM transportation only will be provided if you meet school residency requirements.
Registration Information
In response to COVID-19 2020-2021 VPK Registrations will only be accepted online. VPK Registrations require two steps:
  1. Applying for a VPK Voucher on
  2. After the voucher is received, complete an online enrollment with the School District of DeSoto County.

Controlled Open Enrollment
The School District of DeSoto County has adopted a Controlled Open Enrollment plan that allows a student to enroll in any of its schools that has not reached capacity (subject to maximum class size requirements). See the Controlled Open Enrollment documents provided in the section below for more information.
