School Programs & Services
Home Education is an educational choice option that satisfies the requirement for regular school attendance. Curricular decisions are determined by the parent. If you are interested in starting a Home Education Program you will need to register your program with the Department of Student Services. One we receive your application you may begin initiating your program. The notice must be in writing, signed by the parent/guardian, and include the following information: Full legal names, addresses, and birth dates of all children that shall be enrolled as students in the home education program. You may provide this notification by submitting a Letter of Intent to Home Education provided in the Home Education Documents section below to the Department of Student Services

Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK)
The School District of DeSoto County has two Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Classes in every elementary school. The registration for these classes is very limited. Students zoned for the school have priority.

• 7:30 am -11:30 am – Free – AM transportation only will be provided if you meet school residency requirements.
• 7:30 am - 2:30 pm – $75.00 per week – AM & PM transportation will be provided if you meet school residency requirements.
All parents/guardians must apply for the VPK Voucher on www.elcfloridasheartland.org prior to submitting a School District of DeSoto County VPK Application.
No applications will be accepted at the schools. Applications will be accepted at the Student Services Department located at 310 W. Whidden St.

Controlled Open Enrollment
The School District of DeSoto County has adopted a Controlled Open Enrollment plan that allows a student to enroll in any of its schools that has not reached capacity (subject to maximum class size requirements). ALL students requesting a new transfer from their home school to another school of choice will have to complete the application provided below and return it to the Department of Student Services.
