On Monday, February 5, third grade students from West Elementary School traveled on a field trip visit to Mote Marine Laboratory! "Mote" is an independent marine research institution located in Sarasota, Florida. During their visit, students enjoyed an informative guided tour, and gained an abundance of knowledge about marine science, and the population diversity found in the ocean.
According to Mrs. Alison Gilmore, West Elementary Teacher, “Mote Marine was very organized and well planned with the student tour, and their guides' knowledge and patience with the students' questions was wonderful! All of the third graders thoroughly enjoyed it!”
As mentioned in their website, Mote is composed of “...scientists, explorers and stewards of the ocean. Focused on research and education, we work to create a better environment for ourselves and our children…Our research programs also focus on understanding the population dynamics of manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, sharks and coral reefs and on conservation and restoration efforts related to these species and ecosystems.”
