West Elementary School 4th Graders Visit Florida Aquarium!

On Friday, January 19th, West Elementary School 4th grade students experienced the firsthand study of marine organisms through an academic field trip visit to the massive 250,000-square-foot Florida Aquarium, located in downtown Tampa, Florida! The Florida Aquarium, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is publicly operated institution, and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The facility is reported to be the home to over 7,000 aquatic plants and animals worldwide.

This educational excursion was arranged by the Mosaic Company in Desoto, and allowed students to gain a better understanding of marine life and ecosystems. According to Principal Nelson, the day was a great success!

The Florida Aquarium is more than just a educational regional attraction. The Visit Tampa Bay website states that "the aquarium is working to protect and restore our blue planet. Admission ticket sales help educate visiting students, provide world-class care to animal ambassadors, rehabilitate rescued sea turtles, and advance scientific research to save the Florida coral reef tract. As a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization, the Aquarium is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums for maintaining high standards in animal welfare, veterinary care, conservation and education among other requirements."
