by Jennifer Nott Steven Jones and Tyler Maassen put their heads together and came up with a unique club idea that is new to the school. Knights of the Dining Room Table is a new club about fantasy role playing. In the club, every member plays a character’s role et in a fantasy world. Each character gets sent on an imaginary adventure that can take place according to the rules of different role playing games. All of the rules can be found in books that members use in their journeys. The members relay on the books to figure out what each character is and isn’t aloud to do. Even though the characters aren’t real, the group does use some props. A grid is used to map out places where the character is. Miniature figurines are also used to represent the characters.
"Imagination is the key," states Maassen, "It’s like reading a book and picturing the scene in your head, this is how the game is played." The club began as a chance to play with different group of kids and to allow the group to have more playing time than just once or twice a month, according to Maassen. Jones says that another reason the group began was to be informative. The two are always carrying books around that deal with role playing and were always asked questions about the game. "We have a good group, I think that it has turned out well," comments Jones. The club is for anyone who wants to take the time to learn how the game is played and who will remember the two rules. The two rules of the club are: number one, everything that takes place is fantasy, never take anything seriously or personally; and rule number two, never play during class time. The eight members of the club are Brian Dees, Jones, Maassen, Billy Norris, Lucas Wolford, Tray Reeves and Anthony Selkowitz. The group meets every Wednesday in room 602 from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
