Issue Feature Stories All student teams participating in the HOSA Regional Competition returned with a first, second or third place medal. Ariana Avila This year, the HOSA Regional Competitions at Manatee Technical Institute were exceptional. With twelve members participating, each one came home with an assured advancement to state competitions. “This will be my third year going [to state] so I’m hoping to do pretty well,” said senior KaDea Brewster.Brewster placed first in Medical Terminology. In her previous years, she placed first and second in the same category at regional.Along with Brewster, Crystal Allen, April Parker, Maria Rubio, Ruben Ruiz, and Gregory Scharf came in first at the competition.Conquering the CPR/First Aid category, Omar Bryant and Saely Quezada came in second while Amanda Lane and Dominick Wolcheck beat the Manatee team for third.Seniors Michael Mendez, Parker, and Ashleen Robbins, took over the category of Pathophysiology. Parker won first, Robbins second, and Mendez third. Allen won in Medical Photography and Ruiz came in first in Public Speaking. “I feel the participants did extremely well,” said Mrs. Marilynn Goodman, one of the HOSA club advisors. “Everyone placed to go to state. Each one of the students has the ability to go to nationals.” State competitions will be held April 6-9 at Daytona. Unlike Regional, where there were only two schools, state will consist of schools ranging from Miami to Tallahassee.
