DeSoto County High School SAC-School Advisory Council September 12, 2005
Attendance: Karen Allen, Jena Roberts, Bro. Chuck Poe, Jolaine Konstantinidis, Lois Heine, Stephanie Heuer, Celia Bateman, Daniel Dubbert, Jackie Brucker, Lucille J. LaCava.
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Karen Allen, Vice Chairperson, in the absence of Chairperson Tim Backer.
I. Minutes: The minutes were approved as read. Motion Roberts/Second Bateman
II. Treasurer's Report: The treasurer report was approved after an explanation of current funds by Lucille. Motion Bateman/Second Poe
III. Old Business: A. Sidewalks: EBR was submitted and approved under the heading of Student Safety. The north side of the visitor parking lot will be renovated so that there is a walk-through gate provided for student access. (Dubbert) B. School Repairs: Continue daily. New ceiling tiles have been installed and the cafeteria has been renovated. (Dubbert) C. Graduation DVD: no comment D. Additional lockers: 90 additional lockers have been ordered. They are expected sometime in October. They will be placed in the East Hallway near room #427. (Dubbert)
IV. Reports: A. Renaissance: Three activities have been scheduled for the following dates: Nov 4th Goofy Games w/ chips Jan 27th Talent Show w/ soda and candy April 13th Slide Show w/mixed candy bag and money give aways
B. Seniors: Have ordered 115 jerseys that were pre-sold. Preparing for Homecoming Dance that will take place on October 15th, from 8pm-midnight in the cafeteria. Mrs. Roberts requested that the students be kept away from the kitchen area of the cafeteria during the dance.
C. Juniors: Preparing for homecoming, class t-shirts and working the concession stand.
D. Sophomores: Sponsoring a dance on Sept. 16th that will take place from 9:30-11-30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Prices for the dance will be $5.00 at the door, $2.00 with a stamp, proving they were at the game and $1.00 for cheerleaders, football players, band members and concession workers. Voting for class officers.
E. Freshmen: Sponsoring a Bar-B-Q on Friday, Sept 16th, from 4:30-6:30p.m. Pick up will be at bus loop. Cost is $6.00 for a chicken dinner.
Jackie Brucker, Class sponsor, indicated that communication between school staff and sponsor has not been acceptable. This lead to a discussion about how to better communicate with each other and keeping everyone informed of activities and procedures.
F. Principal: Read 180 Workshop for teachers, program involves direct instruction to a small group utilizing computer program.
Media Statistics are up
First home football game will be on September 16th. There will be a pep rally in the afternoon.
Class officer elections will take place on September 15th. Mr. Negley will be setting up the voting machines for the students to cast their vote.
Homecoming will take place on October 14th. Parade at 4:30, homecoming activities prior to the football game and additional activities during half time. The homecoming dance is scheduled for October 15th.
This year Academic Letter Awards will take place in the fall (Nov. 14th at 6:30 p.m.). The spring Academic Letter Awards will be for seniors only and will be included during the Senior Award Ceremony in May. (Dubbert)
V. New business: Lucille stated that SAC is in need of a secretary. Anna Clausing resigned from the position due to person obligations. The members were asked to assist in finding someone to replace Anna.
VI. Discussion: There was a brief discussion and exchange of ideas to improve senior awards.
Lucille stated that we needed to update the SAC member list. There was a brief discussion about was to contact people to obtain new members.
Mrs. Shayman requested that volunteer reports be turned in ASAP.
Jackie Brucker requested that class officer elections be held in the Spring so that the school year would start with the new officers already in place.
VII. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
Our next meeting will be Oct. 10th, 2005. 5:30 P.M.
