DeSoto County High School SAC- School Advisory Council Minutes February 14th, 2005 Attendance: Lucille LaCava, Karen Allen, Jena Roberts, Tim Backer, Chuck Poe, Daniel Dubbert, Shirley Adcock, Stephanie Heuer, Celia Bateman, Lois Heine, Ruben Ruiz, Dennis Allen, Veronica Polk, Jolaine Konstantinidis, Debi Barnwell, Cynthia Dawkins, James Goddard, and Anna Clausing. I. Minutes: The minutes were approved as read. II. Treasurer's Report: Ms. LaCava reported we have $3,583.00 available in the regular account. Ms. LaCava reported we have $7,110.60 available in the "Special" SAC account. III. Old Business: A. Mr. Backer is still in talks with the city on the sidewalk issue. The city would supply the labor, but the cost of the concrete would have to come from somewhere else. That cost is approximately $100 per square, with 25 square needed. The city also told him that there are land owners along the route that do not want sidewalk there. B. Many repairs have been made on the school and many are still on-going. Most of the athletic fields are ready. C. There was no news on a new school sign. D. Ms. LaCava is still working on the television request project. E. Ms. LaCava is still working on the printer for the floating lab project. IV. Reports: Renaissance: Ms. Heuer reported the next activity will be Feb. 18th. There will be a lip sync talent show and 2 rock and roll bands. Classes: Seniors: Have caps, gowns, and announcements ordered. Working on "Grad Nite" ticket sales to be 3/1-3/7. Prom is 4/9. "Grad Nite" is 4/23-4/24. Senior messages have to be to Jill Maassen by 4/4 as well as "Last Will and Testaments". Top 10 % is 5/3 at 7:00 at the Owens school. Senior Awards are 5/12 at 6:30 in the gym. Baccalaureate is 5/15. Graduation practice is 5/19. Senior breakfast is 5/20. Graduation is 5/20 at 7:00. Juniors: Made $11,000 (to be split with the sophomore class) for 10 days of fair parking. Will be selling Prom packages 3/17. Working on Prom-4/9. Sophomores: Having a candle sale 2/17-3/17. Will be selling ice tea at the March rodeo. Freshman: No report available. Principal's Report: 1. Mr. Goddard thanked Ms. Shayman and the Guidance department for all the work on the FCAT writing tests. 2. "The Buzz" section of the newspaper will feature a "From the Principal's Desk" article each week with Mr. Cline's approval. 3. Mr. Goddard will be having class meetings on Wed. 4. SAC was thanked by Mr. Goddard for the monies for the "Saturday" school. 5. The agenda books are being brought up to date and have been ordered. 6. Mr. Goddard thanked Mr. Dubbert and the resource officer for their work in the student parking lot. 7. Mr. Goddard voiced his concern on the parking situation, both in the student lot and the teacher lot. With construction vehicles going in and out, work on the cafeteria, and roofing being done, he has asked teachers to park along the fence. V. New Business: Mr. Goddard requested up to $500 for drinks for the student being taken off campus during testing. They have a donation of pizzas. Approved- Bateman/Heuer motion. A slate of officers for the March election was presented: President: Tim Backer Vice-President: Karen Allen Treasurer: Lucille LaCava Secretary: Anna Clausing A request for monies used to purchase chairs for the band room was tabled till next meeting. VI. Discussion: It was asked if there was a better way to release students after school to make the student parking lot safer. Mr. Dubbert said that the resource officer is out there, but there is much congestion due to the full lot, students can only turn one way out of the parking lot. The Powder Puff football game was cancelled due to the painting of the track, and will be re-scheduled at a later date. VII.
