Desoto County High school SAC-School Advisory Council Minutes August 9th, 2004
Attendance: Daniel Dubbert, Karen Allen, Lois Heine, Dennis Allen, Stephanie Langford, Lucille LaCava, Jolaine Konstantinidis, Linda Shayman, Chuck Poe, Cassie Lawrence, Celia Bateman, James Goddard, and Anna Clausing. In President Backer's absence, VP Ms. Allen called the meeting to order. Introductions: Everyone introduced themselves and what grade their child is in. I. Minutes: The minutes were accepted as read. LaCava/Konstantinidis motion. II. Treasurer's Report: Ms. LaCava reported that we have a start total of $16,283.00. III. Old Business: 1. Ms. Shayman stated that the cafeteria renovations are still being planned. IV. Reports: Renaissance: No report available. Will have dates at the next meeting. Seniors: Class Sponsors- Celia Bateman and Cassie Lawrence. Class sponsors were able to visit classes and speak with Seniors on Mon. They are having a class meeting soon. They are getting ready for Homecoming, (co-host with the Junior class). They have set "Grad Nite" for April 23rd., Senior awards , May 12th, Baccalaureate on May 15th and graduation on May 20th. Juniors: Class Sponsors- Lois Heine and Jolaine Konstantinidis. Have set up agreement with Blazing Blue Band for concession stand help, going to do fair parking, co-host Homecoming with the Senior class, and set prom date at April 9th. Sophomores: Class Sponsors- Marilyn Patten and Jennie Cross. No report available. Freshman: Class Sponsors-Celia Bateman and Lisa Norris. Set up bar-b-que for Sept. 3rd. from 5-7 PM. Selling t-shirts. Principal: Mr. Goddard Being the first SAC meeting that Mr. Goddard has attended, no report available, but will have one next meeting. Will be looking to bring "Scantron" to the high school.and possible help with funding. V. New Business: 1. Ms. Shayman passed out the 2004-2005 School Improvement Plan- approved on Bateman/Lawrence motion. Mr. Allen stated he did not see the sidewalk safety issue in the plan, and was told that Mr. Cantees was in talks with the city on that issue before he left. 2. Ms. Shayman told us that "Camp Bull Dog" had 21 students in it this summer, and felt it was a success. 3. Ms. Shayman reported there are 1300 students, 600 of which are in intensive reading and math classes. She wrote a grant this summer to help funding to hire new reading teachers. 4. Mr. Goddard will meet with Mr. Cline on Thurs. regarding expansion. There are 10 "floating" teachers now. Will ask for portables. Check on future plans with the growing population of Desoto county. 5. Mr. Dubbert told us his new title is assisstant Principal, and told us his duties in this role. 6. Ms. Bateman thanked Ms. Shayman for her help this summer with the community college. 7. We need to replace 7 SAC members we lost at the end of last school year. We need to verify our demographics. Discussion: It was asked if the school buses taking so long to get students home would be remedied, and Mr. Goddard said they should be straightened out by Wed.. Adjournment: There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
