DeSoto County High School School Advisory Council September 11, 2006
Attendance: Linda Shayman, Daniel Dubbert, Lucille LaCava, Tim Backer, Karen Allen, Kim Nugent, Kay Edelmann
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.
I. Minutes: approved by all II. Treasurer’s Report: approved by all III. Old Business: The position of Treasurer is still open. New secretary will be Theresa Dow. IV. Reports: A. Renaissance – no report.
B. Classes: Seniors – no report.
Juniors – Kim Nugent reported the class was working on their float and homecoming events. Sophomores – No report.
Freshmen – No report.
C. Principal’s Report: Mr. Dubbert expressed his concern in reference to getting more people involved in SAC and trying to come up with a plan on how to get the members to attend the meetings.
Mr. Dubbert explained Think Link as an assessment to help prepare students for the FCAT testing in the spring. It was a process that would occur three times prior to the FCAT test dates.
SACS accreditation during 07-08 school year.
Sept. 25th was Academic letter award ceremony.
V. New Business : Mrs. Shayman explained about how high school students would be required to declare a major course of study and that 21 majors were determined and sent for approval.
VI. Discussion - Mrs. Nugent stated her concern in reference to the amount of money SAC gives to the Renaissance Committee. Mr. Dubbert went on to explain the purpose of and the importance of recognizing students for their achievements and academic improvement. Renaissance is a positive reinforcement.
VII. Adjournment - Meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
Next meeting will be Monday, October 13, 2006 at 5:30 p.m., in room #210.
