Meeting Minutes

October 9, 2006

 

The meeting was called to order by Tim Backer at 5:31 p.m.

 In Attendance

 Tim Backer, Ted Fleming, Danny Holland, Rosa Holland, Stephanie Heuer, Kim Nugent, Celia Bateman, Karen Allen, Cacee Ford, Jenni Cross, Theresa Dow, Trent Terry, Linda Shayman, Daniel Dubbert

 Minutes of the September 11, 2006, Meeting

 Tim Backer stated minutes for last’s month meeting were unavailable at this time.  The minutes for the September meeting will be reviewed and approved at the November meeting.

 Treasurer’s Report

 Tim Backer stated a treasurer’s report is unavailable at this time. 

 Old Business

 Tim Backer asked if there was any Old Business to discuss.  There was none.

 Reports

A.  Renaissance

Stephanie Heuer stated the dates for the Renaissance Ceremony are Friday, November 3, 2006, Friday, January 26, 2007, and Friday, April 27, 2007.  Stephanie Heuer stated at the end of last school year SAC donated $2784.92 for Renaissance activities.  Mrs. Heuer asked for an additional $1800 to ensure all ceremonies can take place.  Each Renaissance ceremony cost approximately $1200 ($500 for cash giveaways and $700 for food and other items).  Mrs. Heuer stated shirts for Renaissance Committee Members would also be purchased from these funds.  The Renaissance Committee is comprised of forty students who are the responsible for organizing the ceremonies.  Renaissance recognizes students who have good grades, good attendance, and good attitudes. 

 A discussion was held regarding the number of students who participate and possible fundraising for Renaissance in lieu of SAC funds.  Mrs. Heuer stated approximately 600 students (1/3 of student body) are eligible to attend each ceremony.  Several members stated they would like to review Renaissance funding for next school year at a later date.

 Tim Backer asked for a motion for an $1800 donation to Renaissance for this school year’s activities.  Karen Allen made a motion, Linda Shayman seconded the motion.  The motion carried unanimously.

 B.      Classes

 Seniors

Cacee Ford stated Homecoming was a success.  465 tickets were sold and that many students attended.  Cacee also stated the candy fundraiser was a success with a profit of approximately $700.  The next Senior Class Meeting will be held on October 17th at the Fairgrounds at 7:00 p.m.

 Juniors

Celia Bateman stated Homecoming was great.  She also stated the Junior Class would be sharing the Fair parking with the Sophomore Class and this Wednesday, October 11th, a meeting will be held regarding the DJ for the Prom.

Sophomores

Rosa Holland stated Homecoming was great.

Freshman

There was not a representative present.

C.      Principal

Mr. Dubbert stated the Academic Letter ceremony was held September 25th with 300 people in attendance including 140 recipients.  Mr. Dubbert stated he was very pleased with the turnout. Mr. Dubbert commented positively about the Homecoming Dance, parade, and the floats. 

 Mr. Dubbert stated on October 10th, he and five other school/district administrators would be attending a three-hour meeting in Orlando with the Southern Association of Colleges.  This meeting is in preparation of next year’s review.

 Mr. Dubbert was asked about Spirit Week and he stated there will be activities.  The Cheerleaders are in charge of plans for this festive week.

 New Business

 Secretary

 Tim Backer stated Theresa Dow has volunteered to be the SAC Secretary.  He asked for a motion.

Karen Allen made a motion to accept Theresa Dow as Secretary, Trent Terry seconded the motion.

The motion carried unanimously.

 Tim Backer stated we are still in need of a Treasurer.

 Discussion

 Mrs. Bateman stated Sara Sposs does a great job of getting the community involved in high school activities.

 Tim Backer discussed the recent violence in schools across our country.

 Mr. Dubbert stated he is working on revising the student check-out process, which would allow for parents to pick up their child at the front desk instead of walking through the school to the attendance window.  Mr. Dubbert stated he has discussed this plan with Mr. Cline, who is comfortable with it.

A letter will be going home to parents in the near future explaining the new procedure.

 A discussion was held regarding a lock down or an evacuation in a critical incident and also food for students if either situation occurred and lasted into the evening hours.

 Mrs. Bateman asked for a Turner Center update.  Mr. Dubbert stated he heard it could be completed by January.  He will look into it and pass on the information to the class sponsors.

 Mr. Dubbert stated SAT is scheduled for April 21. Grad Nite is April 28 and Mr. Terry has graciously volunteered to go. 

 Congratulations are in order for Mr. Terry who will be getting married on April 7, 2007.

 The next meeting is Monday, November 13, 2006, at 5:30 p.m.
