Students at the School District of DeSoto recently took part in Modern Woodmen of America’s Patriotic Civics Program. The free program uses original and favorite patriotic songs to reinforce classroom lessons and activities on history and civics.

Entitled, “Our Great Democracy,” the program is divided into three age groups. It can be used with kids in preschool through eighth grade, and it meets many national teaching standards.

Program materials include a comprehensive leader’s guidebook filled with lesson plans and activity ideas; an audio CD of original and favorite patriotic songs that support the curriculum; student workbooks; and red, white and blue wristbands for each child.

The new program is one of six free Youth Educational Programs Modern Woodmen offers to schools, homeschoolers, and youth groups nationwide. The program benefits more than one million kids annually.

Founded in 1883 as a fraternal benefit society, Modern Woodmen of America celebrates its 125th year of serving members and their communities. The organization offers financial services and fraternal member benefits to individuals and families throughout the United States.
